Sunflower Lanyard

The Hidden Disabilities Sunflower is a fantastic initiative that aims to increase the visibility of ‘invisible disabilities’ where the sunflower symbol represents that the wearer is a person with a disability. You should be wary that the sunflower lanyard and iconography is not yet recognised by all organisations or persons, but its recognition and acknowledgment is growing!

Examples of places that recognise the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower include Westfields shopping centres in Sydney and many train stations in Sydney with Transport for NSW announcing its support for the initiative, including free lanyards for customers to wear while travelling. Sydney Airport is also on board, with customers able to collect a lanyard for free from four locations: at the Airport Services Centre on level 3 of the T1 International terminal, at the information desks located near baggage reclaim 2 in the T2 Domestic Terminal, at the information desks in both Arrivals and Departures in T1 International Terminal, and at the Oversize Luggage counter, located on the Departures level, T3 Domestic terminal.

To learn more about the initiative click here. To buy a lanyard and other Hidden Disabilities Sunflower items, go here.

Otherwise, email sunflower@transport.nsw.gov.au to request a FREE lanyard. Make sure to include your full name and home address; NSW addresses only, with a limit of 1 per person.

The National Public Toilet Map

The National Public Toilet Map, an initiative by the National Continence Foundation, is an online tool that shows the location of more than 23,000 public and private toilets, adult change, and baby care facilities across Australia.

There is also a National Public Toilet Map app you can download.

Google Maps also shows public toilets local to you if you simply search for ‘public toilet’ in the app or on the website.

Do you need to use a public wheelchair accessible (disability) toilet?

We can provide the following card:

Just email us at customer.service@nswstoma.org.au and request one. While it won’t guarantee access in all instances, you will find almost all people and places are happy to help, so it’s handy to have!

Master Locksmiths Access Key (MLAK) – Your KEY to private independence in public

We can provide forms to access a MLAK (the Master Locksmiths Access Key), which allows 24/7 access to accessible public facilities for people with a disability.

Simply email us at customer.service@nswstoma.org.au and we’d be happy to help.

With a MLAK, you get access to dedicated public facilities, including facilities in national parks and many Council municipalities, elevators at railway stations, the new Changing Places facilities throughout Australia, disabled toilets that are locked, and even the Liberty Swing.
